New Free Video Tutorial and Online Show

Miniature Christmas Stocking Ornaments by Marla L. Niederer

So I have been keeping busy in my studio lately.   I have always enjoyed creating things and this past year have allowed my propensity for chasing everything shiny down the artistic rabbit hole to flourish.

Since I had so much fun creating these miniature Christmas stockings that I made to use instead of greeting cards, I decided to share with you a video tutorial of how I made them with you.   Just click on the picture below and it will take you to the video on my OrsinisAngels Youtube channel.    I hope you enjoy the project.

I also had to share with you a photo of the deer that spent 20 minutes watching me through my window while I worked out on my elliptical machine.  I guess she was trying to figure out what exactly was I doing lol!  The deer definitely brightened up my morning!

Thank you to all that have visited my sales page during the Doll and Teddy Bear Artists online show this past weekend.  I hope you enjoyed the show!

Playing with my Silhouette and just released the Goddess as a self-study class!

Front Pop Up Card created by Marla L. Niederer utilizing original artwork

No one warned me that using a Silhouette cutting machine can become such an addictive habit!  I have been working on learning how to use and design in the Silhouette software program and am still going through some learning curves.  Thankfully there is quite a supportive community of Silhouette users out there that have been very helpful with my learning curve.  I decided to join a few Facebook groups that focus on Silhouette paper crafts and decided to enter a card making challenge in the Silhouette Card Making and Paper Crafts Facebook group.

Sabine Harris created the challenge and so generously shared her files to make a front fold pop up card, a tower card, and a flamingo image for a bonus challenge.

Since I am not a seasoned paper crafter it took me a bit to figure out the cards and how they are put together.  It was such fun though and learned new aspects of the Silhouette software program by creating my own versions of each card.

How to Make a Watercolor Journal Coloring Book Gift

Watercolor Coloring Journal by Marla L. Niederer

Since I woke up to a heavy frost this morning, I started to think about the winter holidays and  thought I would share with you a tutorial on how to make a Watercolor Journal that I made as a gift for my granddaughter last year. If you like to make some of the gifts you share during the holidays, it will give you some time to make this journal.

Since my granddaughter is young I added several pages in the journal that she could just color with the watercolors I included in the gift.  Feel free to use the images below to trace for your watercolor journal if you wish.

Halloween Paper Doll Exchange

Halloween Paper Doll designed and created by Marla L. Niederer

I hope you have been enjoying the Halloween season this year.  I can’t tell you how much fun it has been for me this particular Halloween season as a result of participating in a Halloween Paper Doll Exchange through the Facebook Progressive Paper Doll Party group.

First draft of paper doll by Marla L. Niederer

Before I joined the group, I must admit, I had never designed a paper doll before.  What inspired me to join the group was seeing a paper doll posted on Facebook by one of my Facebook friends to this group.  They are such a talented group that after viewing it I had to join in the fun!

So after joining the Bell, Book, & Cauldron challenge I threw myself into designing and creating a Halloween paper doll to meet the challenge requirements.  It was such fun to do.  To get the paper doll the way I wanted I went through several versions first before designing my final one.

The process I used was to draw by hand all of the elements for the paper doll and background.  I then scanned them into my computer and added them to my Silhouette Cameo 4 (a cutting machine) software.  The software has a print and cut feature, so I was able to print the elements out onto cardstock, color them with watercolor pencils, and then send it back into my Silhouette Cameo to have all of the pieces cut.

After putting the piece together I mailed it to the group member I was assigned to share my Bell, Book, & Cauldron Paper doll with.

After all of that fun, I received this amazing package in the mail from Marilou Bain, another member of the Progressive Paper Doll Party group!  The package was beautifully presented wrapped in orange and black tulle.  It was almost too pretty to open.

When I opened it almost everything was tucked inside of a witches’ shoe.  There was an articulated witch paper doll, a recipe for cookies, a cauldron filled with all kinds of delights including a recipe for cookies.

In addition to all of these lovely items was a handmade card to go along with everything.

All of the items were created meticulously and sprinkled with German glass glitter.  What a delightful gift!  Thank you so much Marilou!

Just designed a Halloween Tag to be used with my Silhouette Cameo

Little Witch Halloween Tags designed and created by Marla L. Niederer

I am really enjoying decorating for Halloween this year.  My beloved husband bought me a Silhouette Cutting machine this past March.  I’m still learning how to use the software which can be a bit of a learning curve, but really enjoying the process.

I joined a Facebook group called Silhouette Secrets + that has been really helpful.  EllyMae who runs the group also has a website filled with lots of good tutorials.  After viewing some of her tutorials I figured out how to design my own Little Witch Tag.  It was such fun to create!

I used a watercolor painting I created for the central image of the tag.  After creating the SVG file for the project I just printed and cut the image of the Little Witch out of cardstock on my machine.  I also used the silhouette to cut the other two pieces of the tag out of cardstock.

Of course I had to embellish the tag with some lace binding I had laying around from my doll making adventures!

If you wish to see the video just click on the picture below and it will take you to the tutorial.   I hope watching the video will get you in the Halloween mood too!
