New Free Needle Sculpting Video, Windmills, and Trees

I have focused much of my life on figurative art but for several years have also been playing with architectural and landscape painting.  I love to go plein air painting in the warm weather months.  One of the benefits of doing plein air is that wherever I go I am always looking for a painting.  I notice things I wouldn’t have noticed before, or not paid attention to while going out and about.  It helps me appreciate all the beauty around me. 

Since landscape painting hasn’t been my focus for a good part of my life, I have made more than my share of popsicle trees.

To improve my tree painting and drawing skills, I decided to take a really fun online class called The Art of the Bonsai taught by Danielle Donaldson on her website.  I found her class, which I have not completed yet, very helpful in how I view and sketch trees.  This is the first bonsai tree I painted from the class.

Quite a few years ago I went on a trip to California and did a little plein air painting in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.  I was so enthralled with the windmills and did this sketch.

Little did I know that I lived really close to a beautiful windmill in a neighboring town until I made friends a few years back with Kathy who lives next door to a windmill.  After taking the first few lessons from Danielle’s class I found what I learned transferring to my plein air sketching and created this sketch of the windmill next to Kathy’s house.  Even though I have been teaching figurative art doll classes for quite sometime, I love taking classes from other artists too!
