Wishing you a Wonderful New Year

I can’t believe another year has just about ended.  It seems like it just fluttered by so quickly!  I don’t really make New Year resolutions but like to take some time to reflect upon the past year and think about changes I would like to see in the coming New Year.

When I look back over the year I find myself quite thankful.  I continue to be blessed with the comfort of family and friends whose company I enjoy.

My doll making has resulted in some travel this past year. I really enjoyed seeing new places, visiting with friends made on previous trips, and making new friends as a result.

I started to paint and sketch wherever I go.  This has become such a joyful part of my life and helps me grow as an artist.

I was able to have a second critique done on my art dolls by three amazing NIADA artists, Donna May Robinson, Sandra Oglesby, and Tanya Buckley Marriott.  If you never had a formal NIADA critique done on your work, it is an absolutely wonderful experience.  It’s like having a private class focused specifically on improving your own work by the most talented doll artists in the world.  It doesn’t get better than that!

I’ve learned how to slow my pace a bit more this past year and take the time to enjoy all that surrounds me.

I have accomplished some goals this past year and look forward to working on some new ones in the New Year.

I hope your New Year is filled with much laughter, love, good health, a comfortable home in which you may rest, and many art supplies to keep your creativity flowing!

Until next time………

Hope you are enjoying the holiday season!

Festival of Trees
I hope you are enjoying the holiday season!  Recently my husband Bob and I went to see the Festival of Trees at the Dulles building in Watertown.

He 3D printed some of the decorations.

Year of the Dragon tree
One of the trees I found quite creative was the year of the dragon tree.

Under the Sea themed tree
Another one I particular enjoyed was this under the sea themed tree.

Speaking of under the sea, Andrea Baughman, shared with me this picture of the mermaid she created after taking my class Sleeping Mermaid.  She is so talented and creative!  I just love how it turned out!

I thought I would share what has been on my workbench lately

Just before I went to Indianapolis this fall to teach my Sleeping Mermaid class my favorite sewing machine stopped working.  I didn’t have time to play with it until I returned from my trip and it needed a new belt.  I have never changed one before so I watched quite a few YouTube videos from the Singer Featherweight Shop and finally was able to get it working again.  While I was at it I polished it with Caruba wax and it now looks and runs like new!

This is a good thing because right now I am getting materials ready to teach my Moulin Rouge Dancers at AFICC this spring.

I did get a little off task though.  My granddaughter is really into dragons now so I decided to design and create one just for her.  It is kind of a silly project but I had so much fun making it!   I thought I would share with you a few process and completed photos of the dragon.
