Mermaids on my Workbench

Sleeping Mermaid by Marla L. Niederer
“The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.” – Jacques Yves Cousteau
Reclining Mermaid by Marla L. Niederer
I have always loved to be around water, be it a lake, river, or ocean.  I always feel calmer, more peaceful, and uplifted when I am near it.

I have also always held a fascination with mermaids.  Maybe it’s the femininity they represent, maybe it’s the beauty they are always portrayed with.

So when asked to create a commissioned small sized mermaid, of course my response was YES!   I was so happy to create this little mermaid that I couldn’t just make one!

They are far from complete.  They need hair, headdresses, and all sorts of embellishment.  But, I thought it was time to share what has been on my workbench lately.
Some of the watercolor paints I used on the mermaids
I hope you enjoy the pictures.
Until next time……

The Call of the Mermaid

Sometimes inspiration is so strong it calls me out of sleep.  I have been waking in the wee hours of the morning, early enough to see the mists rolling across the fields, for the past two days.  It is as if this tiny little mermaid is too impatient to be created and decided to call me out of my sleep.  Isn’t it wonderful to be so happy to do what you do that you can’t wait to wake up in the morning to start your day?

If you are interested in taking an online art doll class, I am teaching Poinsettia on A for Artistic.

The class begins July 10th for Christmas in July.  It’s never too early to start making gifts for the holidays!  If you would like to learn more about the class just click on the link to A for Artistic below.
